Named the golden coast, Costa Daurada offers miles of wonderful golden sands, washed by shallow crystal clear blue waters.

Boasting one of Europe's premier theme parks, Costa Daurada is a great destination for a family beach holiday.

Explore Costa Blanca

Costa Daurada has a long stretch of coast, interspersed with sandy beaches and pretty coves.

The resorts have a traditional seaside atmosphere and are excellent for families, especially since the recent addition of the Universal Mediterranea theme park resort.

Hire a car and head inland and very soon you're deep into the traditional Spain of market towns and Tapas bars.

Costa Daurada is also within easy reach of the ancient Roman city of Tarragona and the vibrant regional capital of Barcelona.

Getting Around
Good connections by bus and rail along the cost to Barcelona. Taxis are good value in resort.

Eating and Drinking
Value for money wining and dining in just about every sort of restaurant you can think of, including Chinese, Indian and Mexican.

A strong British flavour too with everything from fish and chips to pub culture.

Look hard and you'll find a traditional Spanish meal, but for local flavours head to Barcelona.

Local interest and culture
Barcelona is a 'must see' city of enormous culture and charm.

Taken in sights such as Gaudi's Cathedral and the Picasso Museum, and stroll 'Las Ramblas' to soak up the local culture or sit and watch the world go by.

Beaches
Miles of golden sand all along the coast and if you want to escape the crowds, rent a car and find a secluded spot.

Blue Flag beaches are recognised as having high environmental, sanitary and safety standards. 343 beaches in Mainland Spain received the Blue Flag award in 2003. For more details refer to www.blueflag.org

Fun for the Children
The theme park is worth at least a couple of days of your holiday, and provides entertainment for adults too.

Barcelona is a great educational experience.

A new dolphinarium opened in La Pineda in 2002 and has daily shows.

Highlights

Five must sees: The Cathedral and Las Ramblas in Barcelona, The ancient Roman city of Tarragona, Universal Mediterranea theme park resort, The Aqua Park at La Pineda, The pretty fishing village of Cambrills

Great Views: From the top of the Dragon Khan Ride in Universal (if you can keep your eyes open that is!), Salou's seafront lit up by night.

Memorable Moments: Getting off the Dragon Khan in one piece, drinking coffee in a pavement café on Las Ramblas in cosmopolitan Barcelona, visiting the massive Barcelona football stadium.

Destination Treasures: The value for money.

Travel Tips: Allow some time to shop in Barcelona

Practicalities

Cost of Living: a meal in a restaurant costs 15 to 20 Euros, a bottle of wine in a restaurant 12 Euros, a bottle of wine in a supermarket 6 Euros, a pint of beer 3 Euros, ice-cream 1.50 Euros. A litre of petrol costs 0.57 Euros. Prices are approximate and may change.

Spanish Tourist Office: 22-23 Manchester Square, London W1M 5AP. Tel: 09063 640630 (Brochure line 60p/min)

Events
Various saints' days and high days are celebrated throughout the season - San Juan 24th June, Assumption Day 15th August, Dia de Catalunya 11th September - but they're not especially high profile.

Activities
Unashamedly a seaside holiday destination, most of the activity revolves around fun and games on the beach and in the theme park.
